From his early days of learning to navigate on his father’s homemade 12-foot wooden boat nicknamed the “Tongue Depressor” on Lake Erie, Mike Olmstead was hooked on sailing. His sailing adventures progressed from earning his first merit badge with the Boy Scouts to owning various yachts, including a 26-foot Pearson and eventually a Beneteau 50. Now a family man, Mike cherishes the memories and bonds built through sailing with his children, who continue to reflect on their times on the water as some of their best family moments. This lifelong passion led Mike to become not just a yacht consultant, but a true enthusiast and advocate for the sailing lifestyle. Mike prides himself on guiding customers to yacht ownership, ensuring that the yachts they choose not only fit their maritime aspirations – from cruising around the Caribbean to crossing the Atlantic – but also enhance their lives. His approach is strategic and thoughtful, likening the decision-making process to playing chess—anticipating moves and thinking several steps ahead for the benefit of his clients. Outside of sailing, Mike is an active participant in his local community, holding roles in local government and various community organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. Whether advising seasoned sailors or newcomers to the boating world, Mike brings a lifetime of knowledge, experience, and genuine passion to every engagement, making him invaluable to ACY Yachts and their clientele.
